NYU Shanghai
Make the World your Major
The invention of the global university, an educational institution that lives on different continents, collaborates with different cultures, and yet is still true to its core values, belongs to New York University. NYU turned to FLY to launch its newest campus in Shanghai, China. FLY’s first deliverable after our branding protocol was to create a logo that would appeal to Chinese visual sensibilities as well as honor the famous purple and white torch that is the NYU symbol.

The success of the logo was followed up by many other important messaging challenges starting with our groundbreaking tagline: “Make the World Your Major.” Working with Chinese educators, politicians, administrators and with their U.S. counterparts has taught us life and business lessons in how to bridge cultures, countries, and continents.

NYU Shanghai has become an incredible worldwide success and now offers 19 majors, 50 minors, and boasts an incredible 70 percent of its students graduating with a double major. We are deeply grateful to both NYU and East China Normal for having the foresight and courage to get this joint venture, the first Chinese-U.S. research university, approved and launched. If there is hope for the two largest economies on earth to work together, to collaborate, and even thrive together, NYU Shanghai is the model.
